Temporary Fleet Services Service Person
Description
Distinguishing Features of the Class
The Fleet Services Service Person performs various maintenance and custodial duties at the Fleet Services Facility. This position completes a variety of physical laboring tasks and semi-skilled work in connection with the Fleet Services operation, and performs related work as required.
The assigned work hours for this position are flexible between the hours of 6:30am to 9:30pm, Monday through Friday. It is anticipated that this temporary position will last 4 months, and the employee will work 20 hours a week.
Acceptable Experience and Training
Graduation from High School or possession of a GED; and
Some experience in lubrication of light and heavy equipment; or
Some experience in an automotive shop; or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Two or more semesters of formal diesel or automotive mechanic technology or related education.
Required Special Qualifications
Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post-employment offer physical examination and drug screen.
Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)
Cleans automotive parts and steam cleans motors;
Lubricates, changes oil and other fluids and filters on a variety of City-owned equipment.
Changes and repairs tires on vehicles and equipment;
Washes and cleans vehicles;
Picks up and delivers vehicles;
Performs custodial duties in shop and office areas;
Assists mechanics, welders, and other skilled trades in performing maintenance and repairs to equipment;
Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions;
Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;
Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas;
Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities;
Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
