The Public Information and Social Media Intern will support the District Attorney Department's communication efforts by crafting digital content, handling social media platforms, and assisting in public outreach. This position is ideal for someone interested in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Design and build basic graphics using Canva for use on official social media platforms.
- Draft, schedule, and publish social media content to advise the public about:
- Community events
- Awareness and prevention campaigns (e.g., Domestic Violence Awareness Month)
- Employee spotlights and internal recognitions (e.g., new hires, Employee of the Quarter)
- Case updates and public safety announcements, as appropriate and authorized
- Monitor and engage with the public on Facebook and Instagram, including responding to comments and interacting with community partners.
- Identify and moderate content that violates the office’s Social Media Policy, including hiding or removing inappropriate comments or posts.
- Review and recommend updates to the Social Media Policy to ensure compliance with standard processes and current trends.
- Attend public events, community meetings, or office photo opportunities to gather content for social media-or coordinate with staff to obtain appropriate images and messaging.
- Maintain and update Linktree to ensure accurate and accessible public information (e.g., add a link to the linktree for mental health resources during mental heal awareness month)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- Proficiency with Facebook and Instagram.
- Basic design skills and experience using Canva or similar tools.
- Strong writing and proofreading skills, particularly for public-facing content.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work within the standards and responsibilities of a government agency.
- Understanding of appropriate tone, privacy considerations, and messaging when representing a law enforcement agency.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a professional environment.
