The Job

Land Use Services is recruiting for a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician III who will be responsible for leading GIS projects and providing technical expertise in support of Land Use Services. This role involves advanced geospatial analysis, maintaining planning-related GIS datasets, and creating maps and applications to support long-range planning, zoning, environmental review, and public outreach.

The GIS Technician III serves as a key resource within the division, collaborating with planners, engineers, and external agencies to ensure accurate GIS deliverables. The position also provides technical guidance to GIS Technician I and II and may lead projects without full supervisory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities may include:

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass a background check and a job-related physical exam, including a drug test, prior to employment.

Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. A valid California Class C driver's license and automobile insurance must be produced at the time of hire and maintained.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must qualify under one of the following options:
OPTION 1:
Three (3) years of experience compiling and preparing a broad spectrum of geospatial data and data visualization products, which includes at least two (2) years of professional experience utilizing Esri’s desktop (ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro) products and ArcGIS Online. Experience may be concurrent.
OPTION 2:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of college coursework in geographic information systems, GIScience, geography, cartography, drafting, surveying, or information technology. Transcripts MUST be attached to the application for consideration.
OPTION 3:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and completion of a GIS certificate program from an accredited institution ** - AND- two (2) years of professional experience utilizing Esri desktop products and ArcGIS Online. Transcripts and GIS Certificate MUST be attached to the application for consideration.

**i.e. Bachelor's degree in Information Technology with 30 semester/45 quarter units of GIS coursework OR Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and GIS certificate from accredited program.

Courses and/or certificate(s) MUST be listed in the Supplemental Questionnaire of the application for consideration.
