Job Announcement

The City of Chandler Community Services Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Recreation Assistant for Adaptive Recreation Sports Coach/Class Lead (part-time, temporary, non-benefited). This position serves at the discretion of the department director. The position is scheduled for nights and/or weekends from 2-10 hours a week, depending on the sports season or class programming session schedule.

Current City of Chandler employees may only hold one position and are not eligible for additional part-time or secondary positions within the City of Chandler.

Who we are looking for

Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are seeking someone with experience in coaching and playing sports, including involvement as a partner or coach in Special Olympics and Unified Sports, along with a strong passion for coaching others. Additionally, we’re looking for candidates who have skills and experience in teaching arts and crafts, cooking, STEM, or life skills classes.

Minimum Qualifications

• Some High School, and

• 1 year of experience in a recreation environment; and

• A First Aid/CPR Certification within 90 days of employment; and

• A valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record; or

• Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Desired Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals with disabilities in recreation or sports programs.

• Minimum of 1 year of experience playing or coaching sports such as soccer, golf, flag football, basketball, or track and field.

• Minimum of 1 year of experience coaching Special Olympics sports or participating as a partner in Unified Sports.

• Minimum of 1 year of experience leading and instructing recreation classes or classroom programming.

The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and a driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.

These policies have not been altered by the passage of Proposition 207. The use of recreational marijuana is a violation of the city’s Drug Free Workplace Policy. Certain positions within the city are required to submit to a pre-employment drug test. A positive result for drugs tested under the policy, including recreational marijuana, may be grounds for withdrawal of an offer of employment or volunteer opportunity. The examination process may vary if determined necessary.
