Description
GeneralThe Market Research Analyst reports to the Manager, Market Research and is responsible for designing, executing, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative market research to inform customer experience, marketing and service planning initiatives for the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans), Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain) and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA).
Essential Functions & DutiesExamples of Essential Functions:
- Support end-to-end market research projects: define objectives, select methodologies and support internal stakeholders and external vendors.
- Procure market research consultancy services for projects requiring resources outside of the market research team.
- Perform in-depth analyses of survey results to identify customer experience priorities and new target markets to grow ridership.
- Create visualizations, draft executive summaries, slide decks, and one-pagers tailored to different stakeholder audiences.
Examples of Duties:
- Design, program, and deploy print and web-based questionnaires.
- Monitor online survey campaigns, ensuring target response rates are met and high-quality data is captured.
- Clean, analyze, and visualize survey data using Excel or SPSS.
- Identify trends, segment customer groups, and develop actionable insights to support service improvements and ridership growth.
- Translate complex data into clear presentations, briefs, and on-pagers for Board/CAC meetings and public communications.
- Create interactive dashboards and periodic reports for internal stakeholders and leadership.
- Procure and oversee external market research consultants in collaboration with the Contracts and Procurement team and internal stakeholders.
- Support market research projects, track budgets, timelines, and deliverables, and maintain project financials using the in-house finance system.
- Maintain and update the market research library - responding to requests for historical data or ridership trends.
- Ensure all research activities comply with Title VI, ADA, and privacy regulations.
- Stay current on industry best practices, emerging research tools, and transit-related trends to continuously enhance research capabilities.
- Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect one’s self, fellow employees and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Market Research, Economics or a directly related field.
- Two (2) years of market research or trend analysis experience.
Preferred Requirements : - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or SPSS.
- Experience utilizing online survey tools (Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, Alchemer etc.)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to build interactive dashboards in Tableau or Qualtrics.
- Able to lift 30 pounds (for occasional fieldwork materials).
- Able to possess a valid California driver license, with a good driving record preferred.
