ABOUT THE POSITION

The Clark County Office of Public Safety is seeking qualified candidates to apply to the Chief of Office of Public Safety position. This position requires a Nevada State Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Category I Certificate at time of application. This position will manage the Office of Public Safety and provide supervision to all the public safety officers assigned to this department. This position is responsible for the planning, organizing, administering the functions of the work unit; overseeing shift assignments; reviewing and evaluating work; and making recommendations regarding the selection of staff. Patrols County parks and other County facilities, assists in public, makes arrests, controls crime, prevents or detects violations of law, and enforces state and local laws. Performs administrative, technical and specialized assignments. Serves as the overall Chief of the Public Safety Department at all times.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

NOTE: Nevada Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T. Certification: A valid copy of a Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Category I certification is required at time of application. Applications submitted without valid P.O.S.T. Category I certification will be considered as an incomplete application. Certificates may also send an emailed to cchrinfo@clarkcountynv.gov . The candidates name, recruitment title, and exam/job number must be listed in the email.
This position is a management position and excluded from membership in the union.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in security and management, corporate security, criminal justice, public administration, police science, law enforcement or a field related to the work AND five (5) years of full-time experience in a security related field, two (2) years of which were in a management capacity, preferably in a large public agency setting. Possession of an advanced degree in appropriate field is desirable. Equivalent combination of formal education and appropriate related experience may be considered.
All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Working Conditions: Must carry a firearm and meet and maintain applicable certification. May work out of doors in all weather conditions and in potentially life-threatening situations.

Licensing and Certification and other Requirements: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment. Must possess and maintain Nevada P.O.S.T. Category I certification at time of application, or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 12 months of hire and maintenance thereafter. Failure to complete required training or receive required certification shall be proper cause for termination.

In addition to the minimum requirements, per Nevada P.O.S.T. (NAC 289.110), no person may be appointed to perform the duties of a peace officer unless he or she:

Out-of-State Candidates: Applicants with P.O.S.T. certifications outside the State of Nevada must provide documentation at time of application proving their certification meets Nevada P.O.S.T. Category I standards. Within one year of hire must complete requirements and receive Nevada P.O.S.T. Category I Certification. Failure to complete required training or receive required certification shall be proper cause for termination.

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. This background investigation may include a psychological and polygraph evaluation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
