Under the direction of the Deputy Fire Chief, is responsible for the overall operation of the Bureau of Fire Prevention and Life Safety,

Responsibilities include assuring compliance with the City's Fire Prevention Regulations and the Municipal Code of Ordinances, Florida Fire Prevention Code, Florida Statutes 633, Broward County Amendments to the Florida Fire Prevention Code and Florida Administrative Code; long and short range planning of the Bureau's projects to meet the goals and objectives of the Fire Department; research and innovation of programs to advance the work of the Fire Prevention methods in Hollywood; supervising on-site inspections of buildings and structures; developing Community Risk Reduction programs, coordinating promotional and educational work in Fire Safety, and supervising the cause and origin of fires. The incumbent will assume all duties including deciding issues as the Fire Code Official and Fire Plans Examiner for the Fire Chief. Responsibilities may also include supervisory and administrative work in the delivery of emergency services, maintaining a thorough knowledge of the divisions within the fire department, and assuming the responsibilities of the Deputy Fire Chief in his/her absence. The incumbent is responsible for assisting in policy formulation and implementation, budget preparation and personnel processing. Work is performed with broad latitude in decision making and independent judgment. Work is reviewed through conferences, observation and daily written reports for results obtained.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical abilities described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, write, hear, speak and be required to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. May require the use of fingers or hands to manipulate objects such as picking, gripping, or pressing. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, peripheral, and depth perception. The Examination

The examination will consist of the following tests: Evaluation of Training and Experience. The scoring will be as follows:

70 points: for meeting the minimum qualification of the position as stated above.
5 points: for possession & proof of a Master's degree in related field
5 Points: for possession & proof of a State of FL Fire Code Administrator certification
5 Points: for possession & proof of a State of FL Fire Officer 3 certification
2.5 Points: for possession & proof of an NFPA Fire Plans Examiner certification
2.5 Points: for possession & proof of an NFPA Fire Protection Specialist certification
2.5 Points: for possession & proof of an NFPA Fire Inspector I certification
2.5 Points: for possession & proof of State of Florida Certified Fire Investigator
2.5 points: Current or previous experience as a Fire Marshal for a minimum of 3 years
2.5 points: Currently working as a Deputy or Assistant Fire Marshal with a minimum of five (5) years in rank

Accrued Sick Leave Payout
Upon the accumulation of 200 sick leave hours, all employees have the option of converting up to forty-eight (48) hours of sick leave to vacation leave.

Employees may participate in the City’s Sick Leave Pool Program upon the completion of one year of employment and with a minimum accumulation of ninety-six (96) hours of sick and/or vacation leave. This program entitles eligible employees to participate in extended sick leave benefits for cases involving non-work related catastrophic or long-term illnesses or injuries.

Reimbursement may not exceed $3,000 for any employee in any one fiscal year. Any coursework eligible for reimbursement must have a direct relationship to the job requirements of the employee’s position.

Reimbursement may only be provided for attendance at an accredited college or university. Employees enrolled in a technical or vocational institution shall not be eligible for tuition reimbursement under this program.

Reimbursement shall be available for books and course fees subject to the approval of the Department/Office Director and City Manager or designee. Tuition is subject to the approval of the Department/Office Director and City Manager or designee.

Employees who receive benefits under this program, who voluntarily leave the City's employment within two (2) years of receiving such benefit, shall be responsible for reimbursing the City for the entire cost of this benefit.

To the considered for Educational Reimbursement, all coursework must be properly approved prior to the beginning of the class by the Department/Office Director and the City Manager or designee.
