Position DescriptionPerforms professional accounting functions according to established procedures, requiring knowledge of complex accounting systems; responsible for assembly and analysis of data; works under general supervision with latitude for technical judgement.
Major/Essential FunctionsThis position will employ an individual with strong organizational skills; good time management skills; the ability to meet specific deadlines and excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills. The ideal candidate will have a basic skillset in accounting and/or finance with a background aligned with the TTUHSC Values Based culture: One Team, Kindhearted, Integrity, Visionary & Beyond Service that supports the mission and vision of TTUHSC. Duties will include performing routine accounting tasks and financial analysis functions to support institutional business processes and administrative monitoring of the overall financial health of the institution.
- Prepare routine financial reports to include financial/balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare, enter and/or review routine financial transactions such as general ledger review and journal entry preparation.
- Perform routing analysis of financial data in order to: 1) adhere to governing regulations, policies, and
procedures and 2) support accuracy and completeness of university's financial data and related reporting. - Analyze financial data for possible errors, and if necessary, initiating and performing corrective action.
- Produce and maintain complete, well-organized documentation.
- Understand and utilize finance systems and data to provide accounting and analytical support.
- Communicate effectively using all forms of communication (written, verbal, etc.)
- Establish effective working relationships.
- Request merchant identification numbers for departments within TTUHSC and manage accounting entries tied to such numbers.
- Reconcile merchant information between credit card processor and TTUHSC Merchant Accounts.
- Maintain inventory information for Merchant Accounts for use in tracking and deploying training and
notifications tied to accounts. - Reconcile credit card transaction activity within TTUHSC ledgers, bank accounts and the credit card
processor. - Act as a liaison between the credit card processor and TTUHSC Departments.
- Participate in Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and information security compliance trainings as they relate to higher education.
- Assist to develop training materials related to PCI DSS control framework for TTUHSC.
- Assist to update policies and procedures that govern payment card processing.
- Assist with the development of the TTUHSC Accounting Services Credit Card website.
- Attend and participate in training and professional development related to accounting, finance, and leadership.
- Utilize proactive, clear and professional communication to provide changes and relevant information to supervisor and colleagues.
- Assist other departments with financial related matters.
- Document and update business processes and procedures.
- Build cross functional partnerships with internal customers across the organization.
- Provide post-award support for sponsored projects including billing and grant close-out procedures.
- Process requests in the Budget Revision System approval queue.
- Process requests in the Fund Maintenance System approval queue.
- Process requests in the Financial Transaction System (FiTS) approval queue.
- Recommend, develop and implement process improvements.
- Assist with various accounting and finance system implementations.
- Complete assigned year end tasks to assist with the preparation of the Annual Financial Report (AFR).
- Other duties as assigned.
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in job related field with major coursework in accounting plus three years' experience in government or commercial accounting; OR a combination of education and/or experience to equal seven years.
