What You'll Be Doing

Wake County’s Maternal and Child Health (MCH) team is seeking a compassionate and professional Medical Interpreter (Fluent in English and Spanish) to aid mothers and families seeking our services. The primary responsibility of the Interpreter role is to provide Spanish interpreting services for patients with limited or no English proficiency who are receiving preventive health care within our Maternal and Child Health (MCH) section. The successful candidate will be expected to interpret from English to Spanish, and Spanish to English and be proficient in medical interpretation. To excel in this role, you must demonstrate the same warmth and understanding towards clients that our MCH team provides daily to all needing our help. Ideal candidate will have:

• Minimum of 1-year medical interpretation experience
• Certification in medical interpretation
• Comfortable with/experience in home visiting and clinic work
• Flexibility to fluctuating work demands/locations

Responsibilities Include:

• Ability to obtain National interpreter certification within 1 year of hire
• Interpret for Public Health professionals in the delivery of medical and social support services, and outreach services to Spanish-speaking clients
• Provide interpretation for Maternal Child Health Programs
• Provide in person interpretation to Public Health clinics as needed
• Provide professional quality interpretation via all service delivery methods - Home visits, virtual visits and phone calls, community events, and clinic
• Have the ability to perform home visits conducted across wake county

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

• High school diploma or GED
• Fluency in English and interpreting skills in a specific foreign language
• Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

• Interpreter certification/course completion
• Certification in medical interpretation

How Will We Know You're 'The One'?

• Demonstrated warmth and understanding towards clients
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of medical terminology in English and Spanish, as well as a good understanding of everyday language and different slangs in Spanish
• Knowledgeable and compliant with the interpreter’s code of ethics that include confidentiality and privacy of the client’s information
• Strong medical interpretation experience
• Comfortable with/experience in home visiting and clinic work
• Flexibility to fluctuating work demands/locations

Hiring Range: 25.07 - 26.49

Market Range: 25.07 - 31.18

Emergency Service Worker Statement
