Job Posting Closing on: Thursday, July 31, 2025 Workdays & Hours: Field Operations Division is a 24/7 Operation - weekend work may be required. These positions are a first responder's in severe weather conditions and emergencies, which will be subject to work after hours, emergency call back hours, nights, weekends, holidays and will participate in an on-call rotation schedule.

Bring your experience in wastewater infrastructure and utility inspection to a role that truly makes an impact. Fort Worth Water is hiring Utility Operations Specialists to support the wastewater collections system through a unique mix of field oversight, technical analysis, plan review, GIS mapping, and team leadership.
This role goes beyond fieldwork-you'll evaluate engineering plans, guide staff on utility standards, conduct inspections, and provide insights that shape how Fort Worth maintains and improves its underground systems. Your work will ensure projects are done right the first time, and that our wastewater infrastructure remains safe, compliant, and reliable.

Minimum Required Qualifications: - High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of Five (5) years of experience in water or wastewater utilities
- Possess a valid Texas driver's license and an acceptable driving record
- Possession of or ability to obtain a Wastewater Collection System Maintenance or Wastewater Preventive Maintenance; a minimum TCEQ Type I Wastewater Collection System Operator license will be required within twelve (12) months of hire.
- Must be able to pass a physical and drug screen testing
Preferred Qualifications: - TCEQ Wastewater Type II license
- Ability to read and understand plans and maps (i.e. Water, Sewer, GIS, Building, etc.).
- At least one (1) year of previous supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of Maximo work order management software.
- Knowledge of editing maps and layers in ESRI software suite (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro)
- NASCO (PACP) Certification
- Experience with using ITpipes or other pipe inspection software
- Experience with eBuilder and Bluebeam
- Experience with Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Study (SSES) and condition assessment
- Previous experience working with large utility construction
Utility Operations Specialist job responsibilities include: - Leads, reviews, and trains assigned staff members in work areas including proper construction methods, design specifications for water and wastewater infrastructure, inspections, research, data analysis, etc.
- Performs research on existing and proposed city infrastructure projects for consultants, contractors, engineers and management.
- Provides administrative assistance to management; prepares spreadsheets and graphs; prepares and presents reports; provides statistical information for management.
- Develop project improvement, data analysis, and research techniques using feedback from management. Uses improved techniques for reporting requirements including, but not limited to schedules, compliance with approved specifications, and analytics
- Performs technical and complex tasks of the work unit including reviewing engineering projects, research of new and existing water and wastewater infrastructure and data analysis, creating GIS maps, and submitting updates to Water IT for GIS updates.
- Performs inspection and contract administration of water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Reviews and evaluates a variety of engineering and construction documents, including drawings, plans, designs, contract documents, technical specifications, cost estimates, environmental documents, and reports.
- Prepares studies, and analytical and statistical reports concerning water and wastewater infrastructure. Submits and presents reports to management.
Working Conditions Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting.
Physical Demand: Light Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
