Holidays The City of Buckeye observes eleven holidays per year: New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
Retirement This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12%, per fiscal year.
Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesGENERAL PURPOSE: Under general supervision, performs as a working lead responsible for the year-roundmaintenance of the City of Buckeye Parks irrigation systems. This classification performs a variety of skilled tasks in the maintenance and operations of City parks, irrigation systems, athletic fields and other areas of landscape and park maintenance.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
- Performs routine inspections, audits and adjustments to a variety of City irrigation systems to ensure maximum efficiency and performance
- Maintains and repairs irrigation systems from point of service, including backflow, valves, wires, pumps, fertilization systems etc.
- Coordinates projects and work activities with co-workers, other divisions, departments and contractors as applicable
- Serves as liaison as assigned to assist with complex problems/situations and provides technical expertise
- Reviews and makes recommendations to current systems
- Develops and implements preventative maintenance schedules to ensure regular servicing and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems and equipment related to park irrigation systems
- Programs and adjusts irrigation controllers as needed throughout the year to maintain water wise sustainable practices
- Performs a variety of skilled tasks in the maintenance of City parks
- Performs other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications & Position RequirementsEducation and Experience: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, valid Arizona Driver’s License and three (3) years of experience in the maintenance, operation or construction of landscape irrigation systems; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of:- City policies and procedures
- Methods, practices, techniques, tools and equipment used in the maintenance of landscape and irrigation systems
- Safety standards and practices
Skill & Ability to:- Install, operate, troubleshoot and repair a variety of irrigation systems
- Follow routine verbal and written instructions
- Plan, implement and manage a year-round irrigation program for multiple properties
- Identify and handle complex maintenance problems
- Prepare clear and concise records, reports, correspondence and other written materials
- Exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines
- Read and interpret maps, blueprints, technical specifications and operational manuals
- Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of work
12-month Goals:- Ensure System Efficiency : Complete a full inspection and assessment of all existing irrigation systems and implement improvements to increase overall water efficiency by at least 10%.
- Preventative Maintenance: Develop and maintain a regular seasonal maintenance schedule to reduce system downtime and minimize emergency repairs.
- Training and Compliance: Complete all required safety and equipment training and ensure irrigation practices are in full compliance with departmental and environmental standards.
Additional InformationSpecial Requirements: Must obtain, and maintain, a valid Class B Arizona Commercial Drivers License within (6) months of employment. Certified Lake Management Certifications preferred.
Days of Week Worked: Tuesday-Friday, Weekends & Holidays may be required
Physical Demands / Work Environment: Work is performed outdoors.
Reports To: Parks Supervisor
Supervision Exercised: May provide direction to Parks & part-time staff.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
