What's This Job All About?

The Public Works Laborer plays a vital role in supporting the County’s road maintenance and construction efforts. Under close supervision, this position involves performing manual labor both indoors and outdoors, including tasks such as debris removal, loading and unloading materials, and operating various hand and power tools. Laborers typically work as part of a crew on road maintenance, flood control, and general construction projects. Responsibilities include patching roads, filling potholes, mowing, removing debris, flagging, and assisting in flood response efforts to help maintain and support the County's road infrastructure.

Receives direct supervision from supervisory or management staff.

Qualifications

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience :
Two (2) years' experience as a general laborer in the construction or related field.

Training :
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license with satisfactory driving record required.

Supplemental Information

The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.
