ABOUT THIS POSITION

This position will perform a wide variety of duties, including skilled maintenance work on machinery, equipment and structures. This work will take place at our headquarters building and at other South Coast AQMD facilities throughout the area we serve. This job may require working evening or weekend hours, as assigned, to accomplish tasks, tenant improvement projects or other activities.

Positions in this class are characterized by the responsibility to perform a wide variety of journey-level maintenance duties on South Coast AQMD machinery, equipment and facilities throughout South Coast AQMD.

MINIMUM AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

The most competitively qualified applicants will be those who bring the broadest range of journey-level skills to the job. Such applicants will be positive, hard-working, flexible and have extensive experience working in two or more trades, such as plumbing, carpentry, masonry, electrical, HVAC, machinery repair or other related work. Applicant shall be proficient reading and interpreting building blue print drawings and equipment schematics. Training and/or experience using computer programs like Word, Excel and EMS/BMS computer programs are also very desirable.

Applicants must be able to show that they have the knowledge, skills and abilities required to safely perform the duties outlined above under EXAMPLE OF DUTIES , and safely use the equipment and tools necessary to do the work. Additionally, this job requires the ability to read, write, speak and understand basic English, in order to read written work directions and safety instructions, and be able to communicate with supervisors. The ability to safely drive a South Coast AQMD vehicle in high-volume traffic is also required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE: Training and experience which would demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform general maintenance work using tools and equipment necessary to perform varied electrical, carpentry, painting, plumbing utility and mechanical maintenance duties.

LICENSE: California Class "C" Driver's License.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

Application packets, including responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire, will first be screened, and the most competitively qualified candidates will be invited to a multiple-choice examination, to be rated on a pass/fail basis. Candidates who pass the exam will advance to the next step in the process, which may include a panel interview. (Please note that some assessments may be conducted remotely).

Following the assessment process, a ranked eligible list is expected to be created, from which current and future vacancies may be filled, during the 6-12-month life of the list. Only those who demonstrate they are among the most competitively qualified, at each successive step of the selection process, will be advanced to the next step. (Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an invitation to the next step.)
