Description

The Position

The current vacancy is in Ukiah, CA.

The list developed from this recruitment will be used for a limited period to fill open and promotional, regular full-time, and part-time positions throughout the County, should they occur. Pursuant to current bargaining unit agreements, employees regularly assigned to the coastal region or in Covelo are eligible to receive a 5% assignment premium .

Under direct supervision, inspects construction projects to enforce compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and laws. Incumbents in this class perform basic building code inspections and assist in the review of construction plans. Incumbents conduct investigations of alleged violations of housing and building codes and ordinances. Incumbents in this class receive regular supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures.

Job Requirements and Minimum Qualifications

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED; and two (2) years of progressively responsible related experience in building inspection or full-time experience in any of the trades or profession directly associated with the structure of building construction: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC work.;

OR

Completion of a Building Inspection Technology Program from an accredited vocational school or an accredited college or university.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Driver’s License.

Must obtain residential certification in at least two (2) of the following disciplines: Building(B1), Mechanical (M1), Electrical (E1), and/or Plumbing (P1) Inspection within 12 months of appointment. Must obtain the remaining two (2) residential certifications for a total of four (4) certifications (B1, P1, M1 & E1) within 24 months of appointment.

Note: Certificates must be issued and remain active by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) or the International Code Council (ICC). Alternative certifications recognized by IAPMO and/or ICC may be substituted if determined acceptable by Human Resources in conjunction with the department.

State law requires incumbents to complete 45 hours of continuing education for every three (3) year period, including 8 hours disability access requirements.

Based on the number of qualified candidates, applicants meeting the job requirements and qualifications will be invited to participate in an oral examination (weight 100) or an unassembled exam, consisting of an evaluation of education and experience as stated on the application form. SALARY
Compensation is based on a five-step salary range, with annual merit-based increases within the salary range.

RETIREMENT

HOLIDAYS AND PERSONAL LEAVE
Mendocino County observes 11 paid holidays per year. Employees are granted 24 - 48 hours of personal leave annually, depending upon Bargaining Unit.

VACATION
Accrues at the rate of two weeks per year for three years. Three weeks per year after three years, four weeks after eight years and five weeks after 15 years.

SICK LEAVE
Paid sick leave accrues at the rate of 1.25 days per month, or 15 days per year. Accruals are pro-rated for part-time employees working at least 20 hours per week. Part-time employees working less than 20 hours per week, and extra-help employees receive up to 24 hours (or 3 days) of paid sick leave annually.

MEDICAL, DENTAL, VISION, AND LIFE INSURANCE
The County and the employee share the cost of an employee selected health care plan; enrollment in the plan includes $20,000 Life Insurance.
