What You'll Be Doing

Lead the engine that protects kids and powers family stability. Step into the seat where vision, policy, data, and heart collide-every decision you make moves hundreds of children closer to safety, permanence, and well-being. Wake County’s Child Welfare Division is a state-supervised, county-administered system serving 500+ children in foster care and thousands more through Prevention and Child Protective Services.

We are accountable to clear mandates and MOU goals, and we meet them through supportive accountability-setting high expectations and backing them with coaching, data, technology, contracts, and fiscal muscle.

As the Child Welfare Division Director, you:

You steward people and resources-overseeing 350+ staff across multiple sites, buildings, business justifications for staffing and infrastructure, and managing a multimillion-dollar budget with strong fiscal stewardship. You strengthen the infrastructure of care and cultivate productive partnerships. You ensure services are family-centered, culturally responsive, and ethical, and you respond effectively to client and public complaints and critical incidents.

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:30 am - 5:15 pm

Hiring Range: 99,333 - 139,065 Commensurate with Experience

Market Range: 99,333.00 - 178,793.00

Emergency Service Worker Statement

In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
