An Environmental Code Compliance Officer job is available in the City of Fort Worth Environmental Services Department, Environmental Investigation Unit. The position performs complaint investigations and enforces City of Fort Worth ordinances, state laws, municipal codes, and zoning ordinances dealing with illegal dumping investigations. Performs a variety of technical tasks related to the assigned area of responsibility.
Minimum Qualifications: - HS Diploma/GED supplemented by specialized training in code enforcement, building codes, and zoning regulations or related field.
- One (1) year of general experience in building or construction trades, zoning, or enforcement of local, state, and federal laws or regulations.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a State of Texas Code Enforcement Officer Certificate or Officer in Training Certificate within eighteen (18) months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications - Knowledge of local and state ordinances specific to illegal dumping investigations.
- Law Enforcement experience.
- Public presentation experience.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Bilingual - ability to speak, write, and understand Spanish.
The Environmental Code Compliance Officer job responsibilities include: - Participating in joint enforcement efforts with the Police Department and other state or federal agencies on special projects designed to maintain corridors and thoroughfares.
- Investigating complaints, performing inspections, and facilitating the abatement of ordinance violations.
- Interacting frequently with customers and other stakeholders to resolve complaints and violations.
- Responding to alleged violations by interviewing complainants and witnesses, taking photographs, documenting activities, and updating records using existing computer-tracking programs.
- Performing complex inspection and investigation duties as assigned.
- Participating in quality assurance and other initiatives aimed at ensuring consistency and appropriate enforcement actions.
- Maintaining records of inspections and surveillance activities and preparing reports as required.
Working Conditions Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.
Physical Demand Medium work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
