Per Diem Specialty Physician - Tuberculosis (TB) / HIV Services. The
Per Diem Physician provides specialty health care to patients with active or latent TB or patients living with HIV/AIDS. Services will involve examination, diagnosis, and treatment at three of the department’s Health Center locations located in: Ontario, Hesperia, and San Bernardino. The Per-Diem Physician will also provide monthly HIV patient care at West Valley Detention Center. This is a contrac t position which does not attain status as a regular County employee. This position serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority. Upon candidate selection, the work schedule will be up to forty (40) hours per week. Salary does not include benefits.
Duties for this position include the following:
- Diagnose and treat patients with HIV/AIDS assigned or referred to the department’s Federally Qualified Health Centers.
- Diagnose, treat, and manage both latent and active TB infections, including ordering necessary tests, evaluating patient risk, prescribing appropriate medications, and ensuring support for maximum treatment adherence.
- Utilize the DPH electronic health record system (currently Athena Practice Solution) to provide accurate, up-to-date, and complete patient information.
- Attend and participate in weekly case conferences, as well as respond to periodic calls from the department’s TB case manager and/or Communicable Disease Investigator (CDI) to discuss hospital discharge approval.
- Act as the primary consultant to staff regarding the medical aspects of the public health specialty program, which includes but is not limited to, meetings and pertinent trainings as required by DPH and the Health Officer.
This is a contract position which does not attain regular status. This position will participate in the County's Deferred Compensation Plan and does not earn any other benefits.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Travel/Driver License: The incumbent selected for this opportunity will be a part of a specialized team that performs TB and HIV services throughout the County. Services are performed at all three health center locations and West Valley Detention Center. The incumbent will be expected to rotate through and perform services in Hesperia, Ontario, San Bernardino, and Rancho Cucamonga. A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
Work Schedule: The incumbent selected for this position will be required to work up to forty (40) hours per week .

Minimum RequirementsApplicants must meet al l of the following:
Education: - Doctorate of Medicine or Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine completed at an accredited institution.
License and Certification: - Possession of a valid unrestricted Physician’s and Surgeon’s license issued by the California Medical Board OR Possession of a valid, unrestricted Doctor of Osteopathy license issued by Osteopathic Medical Board of California.
- Possession of a valid certificate or be board eligible as an Infectious Diseases Specialist approved by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) OR Possession of a valid certificate or be board eligible as an HIV Specialist (AAHIVS) through American Academy of HIV Medicine.
Copies of Licensure and Certification must be attached to the application.
Residency: - Completion of residency in family practice, internal medicine, or emergency medicine.
Desired QualificationsExperience in TB/HIV services is highly desired.
Applicants who are eligible for a license to practice medicine and surgery in the State of California, but who do not currently have a California license may be considered, however, must obtain the license before the date of hire.
