WRD Lab Sample Custodian
Description
ABOUT THE POSITIONThe Clark County Water Reclamation District is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the WRD Lab Sample Custodian position. This position will be primarily responsible for:
- Executing shipping, receiving, packing, and unpacking sample coolers in accordance with established laboratory procedures, verifying Chain of Custody (COC) documentation to ensure all relevant information is accurately included with samples and coolers.
- Logging samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), ensuring each sample is assigned a unique identification number for traceability, maintaining complete “cradle-to-grave” custody of all samples received by the laboratory.
- Conducting grab and composite sampling at the main facility or designated offsite locations, following standard protocols and safety procedures.
- Inspecting incoming samples for proper documentation, preservation, and adherence to approved handling and sampling techniques; promptly report any discrepancies or non-conformities.
- Evaluating sample priority and appropriate testing procedures based on Chain of Custody documentation, coordinating quarterly sampling events for priority pollutants with contracted laboratories to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation and Experience: Equivalent to two (2) years of college level course work in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or a related field AND two (2) years of full-time laboratory experience OR a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or related field. Sample management experience is highly desired. Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations; work out of doors with exposure to all weather conditions; work with exposure to hazardous chemicals and substances found in treatment process; wear self-contained breathing equipment. Majority of time spent in a typical office environment with frequent visits to laboratory areas. Potential exposure to caustic, corrosive, or carcinogenic samples exists while in laboratory.
Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment. Possession of a AWWA Water Quality Analysis Certification is desirable.
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.
Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
