As an integral part of the Operations Division, the Superintendent of Operations - Mechanical, Electrical, and Corrosion plays a vital leadership role in maintaining the reliability, safety, and efficiency of the community’s water infrastructure. This position is responsible for the oversight and performance of all pump stations, electrical systems, flow regulators, and corrosion protection programs across the water distribution system.

The Superintendent manages a team of twelve employees, nine focused on mechanical and electrical systems and three dedicated to corrosion control, and is accountable for an operational budget of $3,117,822. This role provides strategic and day-to-day leadership over the installation, operation, and maintenance of pumps, motors, electrical controls, and protective infrastructure systems. Responsibilities include supervising staff, managing asset integrity, and ensuring regulatory compliance to support continuous water service delivery at the highest standard.

Typical Qualifications

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Graduation from college with a degree in engineering or other related field; and 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in water system maintenance, or repair and maintenance of water systems mechanical and electrical equipment, at least 3 years of which must include supervising the work of others.

OR

Completion of the twelfth grade or its equivalent; and 7 years of experience at least 3 years of which must include supervising the work of others in the applicable area of responsibility, depending on assigned areas. Qualifying areas of experience may include one of the following:

Required Certification:

Possess valid Grade D3 Water Distribution Operator Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board Division of Drinking Water at time of application.

License:

Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Class C California driver's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles and satisfactory driving record.
Other Requirement:
Be available to work on an on-call basis for non-routine situations and emergency responses.
