DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Collects and couriers wastewater samples from compositing auto samplers from multiple treatment plants daily. Provides for effective maintenance and operation of the water and wastewater utility equipment at various locations. Utilizes troubleshooting skills to address equipment failures. May operate equipment or perform tasks that do not require specialized licenses. Operates and maintains sampling instruments and perform field analysis of water samples. Collects, preserves, and transports samples to laboratory for analysis. Prepares and maintains reports, forms, and records for operations, assignments, service calls, maintenance and repairs of equipment and tools, and/or sampling activity utilizing a data tracking system. Performs daily cleaning, kitting, labeling and preserving of bottles and lab glassware. May perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position involves moderate physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting heavy objects up to fifty

(50) pounds on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward position for long periods of time. Subject to long periods of driving. There are routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management Position at the Tier I Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma, GED, or the ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions at a level necessary for successful job performance supplemented by specialized courses or training in the operation of the equipment/instruments.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six months of general maintenance and/or work experience are required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Valid Texas driver’s license and compliance with the City of Houston’s policy on driving (AP2-2).

PREFERENCES

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in wastewater sampling.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
