A New Opportunity and what you’ll do...The City of Ventura is hiring a
Digital Publishing Specialist I/II to support our centralized print and digital publishing operations. This position plays a key role in producing high-quality printed and digital materials that serve a wide range of City departments and functions. As part of a collaborative team, the Digital Publishing Specialist I/II ensures the timely and accurate fulfillment of publishing requests, including those related to public safety, community engagement, and internal City operations.
This position also operates, maintains, and performs minor repairs on a variety of digital publishing equipment, including complex black-and-white and color copiers, as well as laminating machines. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate production records, managing supplies, and supporting the optimization of efficient workflows.

Your Role at a GlanceAs a Digital Publishing Specialist, you will:
- Operate digital publishing equipment to produce professional quality printed and bound materials, including flyers, posters, forms, reports, and multimedia files.
- Prepare and fulfill digital print requests for City departments, including sensitive and confidential materials.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and make minor repairs to digital copiers, scanners, bindery machines, and other publishing equipment.
- Operate laminating machines and perform laminating tasks with precision and care.
- Collaborate with internal customers to meet project specifications, deadlines, and expectations in a fast-paced environment.
- Assist in editing and preparing files for both print and digital use, including media duplication and limited graphic review.
- Maintain accurate production logs, inventory levels, and chargeback records.
- Support Mail Services operations as needed by sorting and delivering mail and processing packages.
- Complete other duties as assigned
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSDigital Publishing Specialist I: is the entry level class in the Digital Publishing series working under direct supervision. Incumbents perform routine digital publishing work requiring minimal previous experience.
Digital Publishing Specialist II: works under general supervision and performs the entire range of digital publishing and printing duties. This is a flexibly staffed position and is normally filled by advancement from Digital Publishing Specialist I. Appointment requires that the employee perform the full range of duties and meet the minimum qualification standards for Digital Publishing Specialist II. Work is distinguished from Digital Publishing Specialist I by the ability to proficiently operate all digital publishing applications, software and equipment with minimum supervision.
This position is flexibly staffed and may be filled at either level depending on the qualifications of the incumbent and the staffing needs of the City.

- Have a solid understanding of digital printing processes, color management, and related software and user interfaces for digital copiers.
- Possess experience using Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
- Have experience using digital publishing software, tools, and production equipment.
- Bring experience working in a print shop or a similar production-oriented environment.
- Deliver excellent customer service, meeting customer needs even in high-pressure situations.
- Communicate effectively and collaborate with internal departments and stakeholders.
- Maintain attention to detail to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Stay organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, and solve problems under tight deadlines.
- Adapt to evolving technologies in digital publishing and print production.
- Enjoy hands-on work combining technical processes and creative tasks.
Experience and Qualifications for Success! Digital Publishing Specialist I: A combination of training, education and experience equivalent to completion of high school and some formal training or work experience related to digital publishing services, operations and equipment, graphic arts, video and audio production, and digital media
are required .
Digital Publishing Specialist II: In addition to the requirements of a Digital Publishing Specialist I, one year of experience comparable to that of a Digital Publishing Specialist I with the City of Ventura is required.
Highly desirable: - Experience in print production and knowledge of graphic design
- Proficiency with computers and technology, including familiarity with various software programs and file formats.
- Proven record of customer service experience
License: Depending on assignment, possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license may be required.
