SummaryAs a Stormwater Engineer II, you will be responsible for empowering landowners in unincorporated King County, addressing a range of drainage and surface water issues. You will work within a collaborative team of engineers, offering tailored support, facilitating essential construction projects, and ensuring compliance with King County regulations. About the Role:This role is an integral part of our engineering team supporting multiple programs to provide assistance, solutions and enforcement across all of unincorporated King County. As a Stormwater Engineer II, you will provide technical assistance, and solutions to private and public landowners and will require well-developed communication skills in the delivery of customer service. Within this role, you will also be responsible for designing, managing, and implementing small construction and maintenance projects; assessing and determining solutions for drainage challenges affecting a variety of stakeholders; and ensuring compliance with King County code related to drainage and surface water management. This position requires solo field work year-round in inclement weather and in aquatic environments. This position will support all unit programs and bodies of work, and support other section and division needs as assigned.
This position performs work remotely and onsite.

Enjoy training, comprehensive benefits , and growth opportunities.Job DutiesWhat You Will Be Doing: - Respond to landowner service requests using communication and writing skills, engineering judgement, and knowledge of code to facilitate Engineer Reviews, SWM Fee Reviews, Emergency Response programs, Engineering studies, and claims.
- Design and execute drainage and surface water projects. Conduct surveys, write technical reports, design solutions, draft plan sets, implement contracts, acquire permits, and implement and manage projects.
- Provide support through technical assistance programs to landowners, including the Agricultural Drainage Assistance Program (ADAP), the Neighborhood Drainage Assistance Program (NDAP), the Integrated Drainage Program (IDP) and the Rainscapes Program.
- Participate in the enforcement of King County code by supporting the Stormwater Drainage Enforcement Program.
- Multi-disciplinary collaboration and communication with varied stakeholders, residents and decision-makers.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, SkillsQualifications You Bring: - Degree in civil engineering or similar area of study, or four (4) years' experience as an engineer (working under the oversight of a Professional Engineer) to assess, understand, and solve stormwater or surface water problems directly related to the maintenance, operations, or construction of stormwater or surface water facilities.
- Knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and methods to assess, understand, and solve surface water problems.
- Knowledge of project management/planning techniques and principles.
- Effective communication of technical details in a clear and concise manner to diverse audiences.
- Commitment to and understanding of equity and social justice and demonstrated skill establishing and maintaining work relationships with diverse groups of people.
Physical Requirements: - This position requires the ability to conduct physical site inspections and evaluations, including in times of inclement weather conditions. There is often a need to walk on uneven terrain, for extended periods of time. Field conditions include brushy, forested environments, river, stream and wetland corridors, and slippery, uneven surfaces and adverse outdoor weather conditions. Work tasks also may include in-water situations involving wading and the use of rafts. Ability to work long hours outside conducting field work and occasionally in inclement weather is necessary.

Supplemental InformationWorking Conditions:- Remote and Onsite Work Details: Employees in this role work remotely from a home location, with o nsite reporting requirements at KSC and Field locations throughout King County up to 5 days per week, depending on time of year and project needs. The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly.
- Remote Work Location Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.
- Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.
- Union Representation: This position is represented by PROTEC Local 17A.
- Necessary Special Requirements:
- Valid Washington State driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to starting work if selected for this position.
- The final candidate will be required to successfully pass a pre-employment physical.
