JOB SUMMARY

The City of Manhattan Beach - Public Works Department is actively seeking an experienced Wastewater Supervisor to join our dynamic team in the Utilities Division. This position will oversee the operations and maintenance o f the City's wastewater collection, electrical systems, and storm drain systems. Our Department
The Department of Public Works maintains 120 centerline miles of streets, 15,000+ traffic signs, and 175,500 square feet of City buildings. The City’s 10 parks cover 47.88 acres. The City also maintains 15 public parking lots containing 1,688 metered spaces and an additional 440 street parking meters. The City’s three water storage facilities have a combined capacity of nearly 10 million gallons. Additionally, the department maintains 110 miles of sewer mains and lines serving 12,000 connections. The City contracts for the ongoing maintenance of 46 traffic signals, solid waste and recyclables collection, and street sweeping.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Education/Training/Experience: License/Certificates/Special Requirements: Knowledge of:
Equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in wastewater collection, storm drains, parking meter repair, and electrical systems; relevant rules, regulations, and laws; automated alarm computer system for the wastewater and storm drain facilities; SCADA systems; OSHA safety standards related confined spaces, wastewater and storm drain systems; work planning and organization; budgeting techniques; supervisory principles and practices; contract administration practices; and customer service practices.

Skill in: Operating electrical control systems, circuits, motors, pumps, alarm systems, and other materials, machinery, tools, equipment required in the industry.

Ability to:
Plan, organize, schedule, coordinate, supervise, motivate and evaluate the work of employees; handle complaints and emergencies; understand and use construction plans, details, and specifications; plan, review, present, and implement operational changes; prepare administrative reports and maintain accurate work records; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; help workers in the field as needed; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors, managers, vendors, other department staff members and general public.

Part-time employees are enrolled in PARS (Public Alternate Retirement System). All part-time and seasonal employees contribute 7.5% each pay period on a pre-tax basis. If an employee reaches 1,000 hours within a fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) or is already a CalPERS member, then they are enrolled in CalPERS (Public Employees Retirement System).

The City complies with California Labor Code 245-249 by providing paid sick leave for part-time hourly employees accordingly.

The City of Manhattan Beach does not provide medical/dental/vision benefits to part-time employees. Eligible employees enrolled in CalPERS may opt into a CalPERS medical plan.
