Fleet Equipment Technician III - Overnight Shift (Automotive, Heavy Equipment)

Purpose:
Under general direction, performs skilled and specialized mechanical repairs on vehicles and motorized equipment, including trailers maintained by Fleet Services. This position is considered to be at the journeyman level within the Fleet Equipment Technician occupation.

Pay Range: $27.41 - $33.30

The Fleet Equipment Technician III will perform maintenance and complex repairs on various systems on a diverse fleet with different types of vehicles and equipment to include after-hours call-outs for breakdowns and repairs. They technician will maintain and repair motorized equipment, gasoline and diesel engines and maintain a variety of equipment to ensure full operating capacity during routine and emergency conditions.

Work Schedule & Location:
The work schedule is overnight, Sunday through Thursday, 10-hour shift, from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. The schedule for Fleet Equipment Technicians is subject to change based on business and operational needs. Shifts may vary and can include day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday hours. Occasional evening, weekend, or holiday work may also be required. Fleet Mobility Services maintains various services centers located within Austin, TX. The location is subject to change at any time. The role may be assigned to different locations, and the work schedule may include participation in a rotational on-call program. This may require the technician to return to work outside of regular hours or perform field repairs as needed.

Commercial Driver's License Requirement - CDL:
This position requires the new hire to obtain a license for the operation of commercial vehicles in the state of Texas within one hundred twenty (120) days of employment. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

Essential Employee Designation:
This has been designated as an Essential Employee position. In the event of a City-designated emergency, Essential Employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees and ensure the continuity of essential operations. In such an emergency, Essential Employees may be called back in, may be required to modify their schedule, may be assigned to a City-designated work site, or may be retained on site to assist with operations and recovery.
