Rate of pay depends on qualifications.Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARYThe Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing employee communications for San Antonio Water System (SAWS). The Communications Specialist works under limited or minimal supervision and is familiar with a variety of communication vehicles and strategies including print, video, online and social medias.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Develops clear, engaging and educational content related to employee benefits, wellness, safety, and other human resources programs.
- Writes, edits and manages print and electronic publications.
- Creates enrollment guides, benefit summaries, FAQs, email campaigns, flyers, videos, newsletters and presentations.
- Applies journalistic writing, grammar, editing, proofreading, and interviewing principles, such as found within the Associated Press Stylebook.
- Develops employee communication outreach campaigns.
- Assists in maintaining the department’s website.
- Serves as primary liaison between Human Resources Department and SAWS’ Communications Department.
- Assists in developing or reviewing employee presentations.
- Monitors SAWS branding efforts to maintain quality assurance and consistency of SAWS corporate standards.
- Provides advice/training on communications-related issues to subject matter experts as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field from a recognized accredited educational institution, plus three years progressively responsible experience in public relations, corporate communications, writing, marketing, or journalism.
- Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License.
- Proficient in the use of desktop publishing, photography, word processing, social media, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and/or multimedia graphics software.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONSPhysical requirements include lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally (photo and presentation equipment). Working conditions are primarily in an office environment with frequent field visits to other locations, facilities, municipal buildings, and event locations. Also operates a company/personal vehicle on a regular basis.
May be required to work hours other than regular schedule, including nights and weekends.
