Description
Therapeutic Services Worker St. Louis Forensic Treatment Center - South, 5300 Arsenal St., St. Louis, MO 63139Semi-Monthly Salary: $1,521.02Main responsibilities include working with our clients in the fitness room, social recreation room, gym, and library at FTC-S, helping with Central Activity Therapy activities and events, and supervising client workers.
Responsibilities: • Monitors Central Activity Therapy areas and helps clients develop skills needed to responsibly utilize the areas. Observes client behavior/interactions and interjects/teaches as needed. Reports inappropriate client behavior. Validates clients’ needs while setting limits and maintaining boundaries.
• Assists client workers in developing vocational skills
• Helps plan/lead/organize facility wide Central Activity Therapy activities/events such as games, concerts, seasonal carnivals, dances and contests.
• Works with volunteers and venders who come into the facility
• Escorts clients to/from activity areas
• Assumes responsibility for the personal needs and safety of clients while in the activity area or during activity programs
• Assists in the maintenance and upkeep of the activity areas
• Attends and participates in staff and program planning meetings
• Completes required documentation of groups led
• Performs other work related as assigned
Skills Needed: • General computer literacy needed.
• Intermediate knowledge of individual and group behavior and effective ways of working with clients
• Introductory knowledge of the general nature of mental illnesses and/or developmental or physical disabilities
• Introductory knowledge of the general methods of preparing for and conducting planned sessions of group activities
• Introductory knowledge of escort procedures, precautions, and appropriate techniques for assisting clients in emergencies
• Ability to learn basic principles and methods of therapeutic recreational, occupational, music and related activities, and their application to the treatment of persons with mental illness and/or developmental or physical disabilities
• Ability to communicate effectively with both staff and clients
• Ability to establish and maintain client interest and participation in activities
• Ability to provide guidance and instructions to clients and assigned staff
• Ability to learn new skills related to assigned activities
• Ability to work cooperatively with others
Eligibility: • Two years of experience in the mental health field or closely related work.
