The City of Waco Seeks:
The City of Waco is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Engineering Inspector to oversee and inspect construction projects for compliance with relevant codes, standards, and specifications. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of civil engineering principles and possess excellent communication and documentation skills.
Minimum Qualifications;
- H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent and 2 years of journey-level experience in general construction or building inspection experience required.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
- Class C Water Operator license from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within 2.5 years; according to the needs of the City, additional training and certification may be required.
Position Description:
Under basic supervision, reviews civil engineering plans and specifications and inspects construction projects to ensure compliance with approved documents, City of Waco ordinances, design manuals, and standard details. Verifies that work in the right-of-way and easements meets City safety requirements and construction standards.
Essential Functions:
- Inspects City funded and development construction projects to ensure full compliance with approved plans, ordinances, and City standards.
- Communicates with contractors and developers on corrective measures to bring work into compliance.
- Enforces safety requirements on-site and documents deficiencies or deviations; escalates significant issues to Supervisor for resolution.
- Maintains thorough inspection records, prepares clear reports, and updates documentation for project files and progress payments.
- Performs detailed field inspections to assess quality, materials and utility testing, and evaluate workmanship, site conditions, and overall project progress.
- Coordinates inspection activities with other City departments, outside agencies, and utility providers to keep projects moving smoothly.
- Monitors project schedules and sequencing to ensure inspection coverage aligns with critical work activities.
- Reviews project plans and specifications in advance to anticipate inspection needs and verify requirements.
- Participates in pre-construction meetings to clarify requirements and inspection expectations.
- Provides after-hours support when needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to respond to emergencies or critical project activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors, and City staff, maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information
