POSITION SUMMARY

This is highly responsible managerial, supervisory, technical and administrative work of considerable difficulty in the planning, development, and implementation of transportation projects, programs, initiatives, studies, and designs, improving safety and addressing mobility challenges within the City. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating municipal transportation projects, studies and initiatives with internal and external local and regional transportation agencies; seeking federal, state, and local funding for advancement of transportation projects in the City; budgeting and allocating funding for the planning, design, construction, and implementation of pedestrian, bicycle, transit, freight, and traffic flow improvements in the City.

Under the direction of the Department Director or Designee, the position manages, plans, coordinates and directs the operations of a division within an assigned department. Responsibilities also include supervising and overseeing activities and operations for the administrative and technical operations of the division along with leading major initiatives. Work is reviewed through written reports, staff meetings and conferences.

This is a non-classified "at-will" position and is not subject to Civil Service Rules or any collective bargaining agreement.

This job classification is in Management Category I for benefits purposes, which includes Ten (10) additional management vacation days per calendar year and a monthly vehicle allowance of $390.00.

JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Public or Business Administration or related field.Five (5) or more years of related progressively responsible professional/managerial level experience in traffic engineering, transportation planning, urban planning, or transit service planning/operations. Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience or education. Previous supervisory experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The position involves light physical demands, such as exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
