Requirements

Requirements to Qualify:

A bachelor's degree or higher* from an accredited college or university with a major in Communications, Journalism, Public Administration, Public Relations, English or a closely related field -AND- two years in a staff capacity** in public relations administering a public information program -OR- professional experience*** as a journalist within a media organization.
In lieu of the bachelor's degree, one (1) additional year of the required experience will be accepted for each year of college, up to a maximum of four (4) years of additional experience.

Completion of 30 semester units or 45 quarter units will be considered as one (1) year of college. The coursework will need to be reviewed for consistency with pursuing a qualifying major.

No withholds will be allowed for this examination. Required education and/or experience must be fully met by the last day of filing and clearly indicated on the application.

License:

A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

Some positions may require a valid California Class C Driver License to perform job-related functions.

Physical class:

Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

Endorsement of County Qualifications:
If you performed work that differs from the duties described in your class specification and believe you qualify for this opportunity, please provide verification via official documentation of additional responsibilities bonus, out-of-class bonus, temporary assignment bonus or reclassification study with CEO Classification within seven (7) calendar days from the last day of filing. Examination content:

This examination will consist of THREE (3) parts:

Part I: A multiple choice and/or simulation assessment(s), weighted at 55%, assessing:

MULTIPLE CHOICE AND/OR SIMULATION ASSESSMENT(S) ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.

Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on Part I of the examination in order to advance to Part II.

Part II: An evaluation of training and experience, weighted at 25%, assessing:

Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on Part II of the examination in order to advance to Part III.

Part III: A writing assessment, weighted at 20%,measuring:


Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on Part III of the examination in order to be placed on the eligible list.

Transfer of Test Components:

Test preparation:
We provide study guides and other test preparation resources to help candidates prepare for employment tests. While the guides may help in preparing for the test, we recommend reviewing all related materials that seem necessary.


Eligibility and Vacancy Information:

Candidates who pass the assessment are placed on a list in the order of their score group for six (6) months. The eligible list resulting from this examination will be used to fill vacancies within the Department of Aging and Disabilities, as they occur.
