Position DescriptionEmployees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a Physician.
Major/Essential Functions- Assess patients to determine general mental health and prescribe treatment with input from treatment teams. Administer medication or other treatments as needed.
- Evaluate patients for common forensic issues such as civil commitment, decisional capacity, and compelled medication, and participate in related legal processes.
- Take regional call to ensure continuous psychiatric coverage across TTUHSC regions.
- Refer patients to medical specialists or practitioners for specialized treatment.
- Review, complete, and analyze patient records, including admission notes, progress notes, and discharge summaries. Make rounds on admitted patients when applicable.
- Provide clinical oversight to ensure all activities follow the unit's treatment program and guidelines.
- Offer clinical consultation on diagnostic, treatment, or other clinical questions as they arise.
- Attend Treatment Team meetings regularly and other administrative or clinical committee meetings as needed.
- Work collaboratively as a responsible team member, adhering to institutional ethics and professional standards.
- Arrive on time for appointments and meetings, respect colleagues' workspace and time, and maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain a professional, task-oriented demeanor and communicate respectfully and courteously.
- Follow the dress code and submit accurate and timely Web leave reports.
Required QualificationsGraduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants.
OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing. Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.
