Known as the ‘Salad Bowl of the World’, Salinas is famous for its’ agricultural production and has an ideal climate for both the floral industry and viniculture, which combine with more than 100 manufacturing entities to create a strong local economy.
The Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority was created on January 1, 1997, as a joint powers authority with responsibility for the solid waste facilities and disposal services for the eastern portion of Monterey County, including the entire Salinas Valley corridor. The Authority supports the cities of Salinas, Gonzales, King City, Greenfield, Soledad and adjoining unincorporated areas within Monterey County. The General Manager is supported by two legal advisors: one a General Counsel, the other specializing in employment law. The Authority staff currently consists of 67 employees. The management staff directs employees in four divisions: operations, diversion services, administration and finance and engineering and environmental compliance.
The Authority is seeking a General Manager/Chief Administrative Officer who is a team-oriented, capable manager and talented leader. The selected candidate should be an experienced manager and effective communicator who keeps staff informed and provides the Board with balanced, professional assessments and reporting. A strong understanding of the solid waste business, financing, environmental regulations and recycling is essential to this position. The salary for the current General Manager is $257,000; the salary for the incoming General Manager is negotiable and is dependent upon qualifications.
