POSITION SUMMARY

The Human Resources Assistant position is expected to go into effect October 1, 2025, pending the approval of the 2026 Budget.

Performs skilled administrative and technical work, of a specialized nature, in a section of the City's Human Resources Department which involves incorporating complex work methods and techniques. Assignments and tasks may vary depending upon area of assignment or departmental needs. Areas of assignment include recruitment, benefits, risk management, and training. Employees in this class may perform independent work of a comparable level of difficulty. Work is reviewed through direct observation, review of records, and results achieved.

JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT

High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency One (1) to three (3) years of experience performing intermediate level administrative work.One (1) or more years of FMLA claims administration. Additional qualifying experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.Familiarity with federal and state laws related to the administration of FMLA from a Human Resources standpoint.Ability to maintain confidentiality of data and employee interactions.Intermediate proficiency level in the following MS Office Suite applications If claiming Veteran's Preference, candidates must attach a DD214 Member 4 form, and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form (J-204 ) to the online application. Preferences: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field
Three (3) years or more of FMLA claims administration is strongly preferred.
As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The position is generally sedentary. Employees sit most of the time but may walk or stand for brief periods of time.
