LOCATION:
WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT, WATER RECLAMATION PLANTS SECTION, DESERT MAINTENANCE GROUP, PALMDALE WATER RECLAMATION PLANT, PALMDALE

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

To operate a variety of trucks, tractors and tractor-trailer combinations on public highways; and to operate off-road utility, construction equipment and bio-solids process machinery at a wastewater treatment plant.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of a Supervisor of Treatment Plant Maintenance, the incumbent drives a variety of trucks with or without trailers to haul grit and bio-solids to and from wastewater treatment plants, and/or drying beds; operates, front-end loaders, graders, skip loaders, , bio-solids composters and/or other similar machinery and various tractor-drawn attachments; drives a vacuum truck hauling water for flushing sewer lines operates water trucks for controlling dust; loads and unloads trucks requiring either manual labor or the operation of mechanical equipment; keeps records and prepares routine reports; inspects, services, and maintains equipment and reporting defects fuels trucks and equipment; performs general and grounds maintenance work when not operating equipment; and performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must possess a California Commercial Class A license or permit -AND- One year of experience operating a variety of diesel equipment, such as tractor-trailers and skip loaders or equivalent.

NOTE: Possession of a California Tanker Endorsement (N) or the ability to obtain it within six months of appointment is required.

EXAMPLES OF ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

The competitive selection process may cover a knowledge of : The functions, operating methods, and maintenance requirements for a variety of trucks, tractors, and construction equipment; safe work practices of the trade; pertinent provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code governing the operation of equipment on public streets. The ability to : Operate a wide variety of equipment; follow written and oral instructions; perform heavy manual labor.

RETIREMENT





COMPENSATION

Employees receive annual salary increases until reaching step 5 of the salary range and are provided with opportunities to promote. Cost of living adjustments are implemented annually in accordance with labor agreements.

13 paid holidays and one-half paid holiday depending on the employee's work schedule.

TUITION REIMBURSEMENT
Employees may be eligible for tuition reimbursement for approved accredited course work.

STUDENT LOAN PAYMENT REIMBURSEMENT
For some bargaining units, the Districts will provide student loan payment reimbursements for principal or interest paid by the employee on a qualified education loan incurred by the employee for the education of the employee. The annual maximum reimbursement is $5,250 and the lifetime reimbursement limit is $21,000.
