Description:As the
Slash Crew Lead , you will oversee daily operations of the SLASH program, lead field crews, and ensure the safe and efficient removal of woody materials across Jefferson County. You'll operate a variety of heavy equipment, maintain job site safety, and coordinate logistics to support wildfire mitigation efforts.
This is a hands-on leadership position that combines fieldwork, team coordination, equipment operation, effective communication skills, and program support.
SCHEDULE: This position works in person, Monday- Thursday, 6:00 AM-4:30 PM
COMPENSATION: Hiring Range: $33- 41 USD Hourly
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: - Perform leadwork duties for crews performing activities to remove and mitigate wood and organic materials . Assign, schedule, and supervise day-to-day activities. Lead, support, and participate in the activities of a crew in the field.
- Ensure crews have the tools, vehicles, and equipment needed to complete tasks safely and efficiently. Communicate program goals and provide feedback.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure equipment inspections are performed. Report and document incidents, accidents, and damage. Set up traffic control zones and follow safety regulations.
- Coordinate and manage weekly operational logistics with partners and vendors.
- Operate a truck and trailer combination, lowboy, water truck, plow truck, and other heavy equipment in preparation of construction, maintenance, and slash operations. Understand and adhere to the rules and regulations pertaining to loaded weight, overweight, and oversized transport and permitting. Operates small to medium size hand tools.
- Perform equipment and vehicle pre/post-trip inspections as defined by federal guidelines and inspect other items affecting safe operations. Perform routine cleaning and minor maintenance, as necessary. Communicate repair needs with the county Fleet division.
- Prepare equipment for use by performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on trucks and equipment, including fueling, cleaning, lubricating, and changing tires.
- Plan and request maintenance service and repair for specific equipment.
- Coordinate equipment repairs and temporary replacements with the county Fleet division.
- Assist the Natural Resources team with forest management operations during off-season months. Duties may include moving equipment and materials to various locations and operating small and heavy equipment.
- Purchase materials and supplies utilizing procurement cards and open purchase orders. Pick up materials, supplies, and replacement parts.
- Assist supervisor with onboarding and offboarding processes. Participate and assist with coordinating staff training. Provide input on staffing needs.
- Keep time, activity, mileage records, and logs.
- Provides recommendations to supervisor regarding other employees’ performance reviews, minor disciplinary actions, hiring, pay, and termination decisions.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience: Four years
Education: High school Diploma or GED
License/Certifications: CO driver’s license and CDL -A with tank er and manual endorsement
*Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities :
- Preferred : A minimum of 3 years of work-related experience in the operation of equipment and/or vehicles with a GVWR of 26,001 pounds or more.
- Qualified to transport and recover equipment .
- Current Flagger certification
- Current Traffic Control Supervisor certification
Additional Job Information: - Criminal History and MVR Background Checks are required for every position.
- Must maintain a Class A CDL with Tanker and manual endorsement and Air Brake restriction removed as well as a valid Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card
- May be required to obtain a Flagger, Traffic Control Supervisor, Stormwater Management, and/or Erosion Control certifications. May be required to obtain a Hazmat endorsement.
