Vacation & Sick Leave At the City of Buckeye, we understand the vital role that vacation time plays in supporting the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of our employees. Vacation and sick leave accruals begin on the first day of employment and may be used upon accrual. Additionally,
employees receive credit towards vacation leave accruals for years of service with other public sector retirement systems nationwide (not including Federal service). Holidays The City of Buckeye observes eleven holidays per year: New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
Retirement This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12%, per fiscal year.
2GENERAL PURPOSE: Under general supervision, performs routine semiskilled and skilled general labor, maintenance, construction, repair and upkeep work on public streets and rights-of-way.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
- Performs a variety of equipment operation and manual labor tasks as assigned; performs the more difficult and responsible tasks assigned to employees in the job series; works with some supervision and makes proper decisions using sound judgment; duties will vary according to job assignment.
- Performs routine and non-routine roadway or grounds repairs and maintenance; graffiti removal; makes maintenance repairs; installs and repairs irrigation lines; illegal dumping clean-up; landscaping maintenance.
- Operates a variety of heavy-duty trucks and/or construction equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Performs semiskilled and skilled construction, maintenance, and manual labor work.
- Assists in the construction, maintenance and repair of roadways, structures and structural components, grounds work areas.
- Picks up and delivers materials as directed.
- Installs and maintains turf, trees, shrubs and other landscaping materials.
- Inspects, cleans and performs routine maintenance work on trucks and equipment; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
- Completes required daily logs and reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
3Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED equivalent and three (3) years skilled street, building or grounds maintenance and equipment operations experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of:- City policies and procedures
- Principles and practices of street and grounds repair and maintenance
- Equipment maintenance and repair methods and materials
- Safety standards and practices
- Traffic laws and rules involved in vehicle and equipment operation
- Principles of record keeping and records management
Skill in:- Safe and efficient operation of trucks and equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures
- Reading and interpreting maps, technical specifications and operations manuals for vehicles and equipment
- Following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions
Ability to: - Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of work
- Mentor new staff and assist Foreman with onsite trade techniques training
- Acquire necessary training and certifications to perform job duties
- Crosstrain within department’s realm of maintenance responsibilities
- Responds to emergencies or periods of high demand outside of regular working hours
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality
12-Month Goals:- Obtain NIMS IS-100 Certification
- Obtain NIMS IS-700 Certification
- Obtain ATTSA Traffic Control Flagger Certification
4Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Arizona Driver’s License. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Commercial Driver’s License Class B with appropriate endorsements within one year of hire date. Certification from the America Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) required within one year of hire. Required to participate in a rotating after-hours standby schedule to ensure timely response to urgent maintenance requests.
Physical Demands / Work Environment: Work is performed outdoors and in public facilities. Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to fifty (50) pounds or more as needed to perform job duties.

$42,681.60 - $64,022.40 Annually
