Description
This position will be filled at a salary no higher than the posted maximum salary. Job Location: Central Office, 1617 Missouri Boulevard, Jefferson City, MO
Two positions are available. Why you’ll love this position: The administrative field intern (Chemist) conducts entry-level chemical and physical tests and analyses by gravimetric, volumetric, and potentiometric methods, using specialized instruments to determine properties and ensure compliance with specifications. Responsibilities are performed under direct supervision.
What you’ll do: - Conducts quantitative and qualitative analyses of bituminous materials, paints, soil fertility, metals, concrete, reflective materials, and other materials used in the construction and maintenance of the state highway.
- Performs calculations, maintains records, tracks materials, and prepares reports on all testing activities and results.
- Follows necessary procedures to properly handle and dispose of hazardous and carcinogenic waste generated by laboratory testing.
- Calibrates, use, and maintain precision test equipment including pycnometers, Ph meters, thermometers, and other test equipment.
- Work with staff on research projects as needed.
All you need for success: Minimum Qualifications - Enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
- 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
- Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
Special working conditions and job characteristics: - Job requires exposure to moderately adverse and undesirable environmental conditions.
- Job requires moderate physical activity.
- This is a wage, non-benefits eligible position, working no more than 1,039 hours per year.
- The typical working hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
