As part of the leadership team for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, this position will oversee the agencies legislative agenda and outreach. This includes working with department leaders, the Missouri General Assembly, Missouri Congressional Delegation, and other elected officials around the state. This position is also responsible for coordinating opportunities to collaborate and build relationships with other departments and external stakeholders. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in the public policy realm on important public health and senior services issues like fetal and infant mortality, protecting the senior population, supporting the department vision of "optimal health and safety, for all Missourians, in all communities, for life." The days are never the same with new challenges and new opportunities always present.

The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.

• Oversee the agencies legislative agenda and outreach to legislators. This includes fielding department questions from legislators and working with agency staff to present information to the legislature on public health topics.
• Oversee constituent requests that come into the department from a variety of stakeholders, ensuring thorough customer service to our constituents and timely responses to legislators.
• Facilitate engagement with other departments and outside stakeholders in order to foster collaboration to further the mission and vision of the department.
• Facilitate internal legislative requests, including New Decision Items within the state budget and legislative proposals that will be recommended to the General Assembly.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in political science, business or public affairs is highly encouraged;
• Familiarity with senior services, public health topics and healthcare is highly encouraged;
• Strong leadership and organizational management skills with the ability to inspire and lead teams;
• Excellent communication skills, through both writing and public speaking, with emphasis on effective communication of complex subject matter.
• Demonstratable expertise in leading collaboration between groups.
• Experience in the review, interpretation and application of state and federal laws.
• Previous state legislative experience is highly desired.
