ABOUT ALAMEDA COUNTY

Alameda County is the seventh most populous county in California and is characterized by its rich diversity and culture as one of the most ethnically diverse regions in the Bay Area and the nation. It is home to over 1.6 million people living in 14 incorporated cities as well as six unincorporated communities and rural areas throughout the 821 square miles of the County. The County enjoys a varied geography ranging from urban marinas to rolling open spaces to hillside lakes and streams.

THE POSITION

Under general direction, to analyze department business system needs, and produce, maintain and update software systems to meet those needs. Information Systems Analysts are responsible for gathering requirements, defining problems and recommending solutions, writing program and database design specifications, modifying existing systems and providing production support for users and their systems. Information Systems Analysts may also prepare instructional material for department staff, act as project manager on projects; and performs related duties as required.

CURRENT VACANCIES

There are immediate full-time vacancies for this position located within the Alameda County Health , Probation Department, and the County Library. However, the eligible list resulting from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in other county departments/agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

The equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university (120 semester units or 180 quarter units) with a major in MIS, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent.

AND

Experience:

The equivalent of two years of full-time experience in planning, developing and administering complex information technology systems and applications.

OR II

Experience:

The equivalent of three years of full time experience in planning, developing and administering multiple, complex information technology systems and applications.

Certification:

Professional Certification as a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer, Sun Certified Java Programmer, Sun Certified Java Developer or equivalent can be substituted for one year of experience.

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS:
A review of applicants' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those applicants who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process. A review of candidates’ Supplemental Questionnaires to determine the best qualified. Those candidates considered the best qualified will move on to the final step in the examination process. An oral interview which will be weighted as 100 % of the candidate's final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises.

CANDIDATES MUST ATTAIN A QUALIFYING RATING ON EACH PORTION OF THIS EXAMINATION.
