Description
Job SummaryThe City of Greenville's Public Works Department is seeking a motivated individual for the Grounds Maintenance Technician III position in our Building & Grounds division. This position operates a variety of complex and difficult heavy-duty construction equipment requiring a high level of skill and competence.
FLSA Status: Non-ExemptExamples of Duties- Operates complex and heavy-duty construction equipment utilized in landscape construction and maintenance;
- Performs a variety of earth moving projects including grading, excavating, stockpiling, technical landscape maintenance, and construction activities;
- Serves as a lead worker by directing, monitoring, and assisting crews;
- Applies pesticides and herbicides appropriately;
- Loads and unloads equipment and attachments;
- Performs routine maintenance to equipment;
- Inspects, cleans, lubricates, and makes minor adjustments to equipment;
- Observes and reports malfunctions of equipment;
- Directs and monitors equipment operators and laborers;
- Operates equipment as needed;
- Prepares equipment operating activity reports; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: - High school diploma or GED; and
- One to three years experience operating heavy construction equipment.
- One year of supervisory or crew leader experience (preferred).
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of: - operation, maintenance, capabilities, and limitations of difficult and complex heavy construction equipment and related attachments.
- occupational hazards and proper safety precautions involved in the operation of assigned equipment.
- state and local laws, ordinances, and regulations involved in operating heavy equipment.
Skilled in: - use of assigned equipment.
- repairs and maintenance of assigned equipment.
Ability to: - read and interpret surveyor's reports, grade stakes, and other materials, and complete job to specifications.
- judge terrain, determine the amount of cut and fill required, and correctly alter earth to desired construction design.
- direct the work of assigned crew members.
- prepare reports.
- perform strenuous work requiring good physical condition.
- work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements.
- understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public and other employees.
- meet the mental and physical demands of the job.
Special Requirements- Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.
- Valid N.C. Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required within twelve months of hire (training provided by the City of Greenville).
- N.C. Pesticide License required within twelve months of hire (training provided by the City of Greenville).
- This position requires work during inclement weather, natural disasters, emergency situations, and on call duty.
