The PositionThe Contra Costa County Counsel’s Office is seeking to fill one (1) vacancy for an energetic self-starter with outstanding organizational skills and superior interpersonal and written skills to join our legal team as Chief of Administrative Services I. The County Counsel’s Office is the legal advisor to the Board of Supervisors, the County Administrator, County elected officials, County departments, boards and commissions, and various other public agencies in the County.
In the County Counsel’s Office, the Chief of Administrative Services I plays a critical role in ensuring the office’s operational and fiscal stability. The Chief of Administrative Services I is responsible for:
- Administering the office under the direction of the County Counsel
- Managing the department’s financial operations, including timekeeping, payroll, and record control
- Assisting with the development and analysis of the department’s annual fiscal year budget
- Maintaining budget records throughout the year and coordinating the preparation of financial reports
- Overseeing the department’s information systems
- Supervising, evaluating, and training support staff
- Overseeing personnel matters and officewide recruitments
- Overseeing facility and safety matters

Minimum QualificationsEducation: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business or public administration, public policy, finance, organizational development, social or behavioral sciences, or a closely related field.
Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible full-time experience in a managerial, administrative, or staff capacity performing administrative, budgetary, or personnel analyses.
Substitutions: Experience Substitution: Four (4) years of progressively responsible full-time professional level experience with Contra Costa County, in a managerial, administrative, or staff capacity performing administrative, budgetary, or personnel analyses may substitute for the required experience.
OR
Experience Substitution: Possession of a master's degree in business or public administration, public policy, finance, organizational development, social or behavioral sciences, or closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
Education Substitution: One (1) additional year of qualifying experience may be substituted for the required academic major.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKERAll Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
