The Job

The Department of Risk Management is recruiting for Claims Assistants who assist Workers' Compensation Adjusters and/or Liability Claims Representatives with routine aspects of complex cases. Duties include the following: obtaining and documenting disability status, return to work dates, work restrictions and follow-up appointment information; maintaining benefit payment cards; processing and cycle computer payments; and calculating benefit rates.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, credit check, and/or medical exam, prior to appointment.

Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet one (1) of the following options:

Option 1:
Twelve (12) months offull-time equivalent experience performing routine clerical tasks in a workers' compensation or liability claims management environment. Duties must include performing basic arithmetical calculations, data entry, composing correspondence, providing information to the public, and preparing, maintaining, organizing, and processing claimant files and other paperwork.

Option 2:

Six (6) months of full-time equivalent experience as a claims assistant or comparable classification performing related duties in a workers' compensation or liability claims management environment. Duties must include calculating benefits, preparing benefit notices, filing legal documents, processing billing, obtaining authorization, processing claim paperwork, and/or setting up claims.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working in a public sector claims management environment, which included using Microsoft Office Suite (i.e, Word and Excel), computers, fax machines, and multi-line telephone systems. Completion of an Insurance Education Association (IEA) Workers' Compensation Claims Administration (WCCA) certificate or related coursework is desired.
