Job Summary

The ideal candidate:

• Demonstrates genuine compassion and comfort working hands-on with animals of all temperaments, including those that are injured, ill, or under quarantine

• Able to assist with sensitive procedures, including euthanasia, with professionalism and emotional resilience
• Knowledgeable about basic animal care, feeding routines, and facility sanitation standards
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced animal care environment with attention to safety and cleanliness
• Communicates clearly and courteously with the public regarding lost or stray animals, licensing, and adoptions
• Provides supportive, service-oriented assistance to pet adopters and community volunteers
• Maintains accurate records and follows established policies and procedures
• Works effectively both independently and under general supervision

Qualifications

The minimum and preferred requirements are listed below. While the following requirements outline the minimum qualifications the County reserves the right to select applicants for further consideration who demonstrate the best qualifications match for the job. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee further participation in selection procedures:

Education and Experience:

• MINIMUM: Equivalent to graduation from high school and any experience in the care and handling of animals.
  
• PREFERRED: In addition to the minimum requirements, additional experience in an animal care facility that required euthanasia. Possess a Registered Veterinary Technician License.
  

Licenses and Certification:

• The ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver's license within ten (10) days of employment; may be required to maintain throughout employment.

Special Requirements:

• Must successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation which includes Live Scan fingerprinting prior to hire.
• Will be required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3100-3109.
